Finally, after long and excessive working hours over the last couple of weeks, we were delighted to celebrate the grand opening of our Kitchen Hub on the 27 November. On the day before we gave our new home the final touch by finishing the furniture and planting flowers around our Kitchen Hub.
At 5 pm the whole Über den Tellerrand team welcomed the great neighbourhood, the – by now huge – community, the architects, as well as our special guest Renate Künast, German politician of the party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.
We started our inauguration with some speeches: After Rafael led us through our history of origins, Renate Künast also gave some introductory and really positive words about Über den Tellerrand is. Lastly, Nina, one of the architects, explained the story behind our special furniture by outlining their conception of space. At this point we want to give loads of thanks for their enormous commitment.
This was followed by – what we are best known for – a tremendous buffet filled with Syrian and German specialities made by our cooks Hadi and Mathias. Many thanks to them for their support.
At 8 pm the great musicians of the band Vierer Jatz Bande – a great thank you to the Band – started their awesome performance and everybody took over the floor. During the next hours a cheerful audience danced – from dabke to polonaise together with jazz – through the Kitchen Hub.
All in all our opening was a full success, which spread out to the streets. But all good things must come to an end, at 22 pm we finished with lots of smiling faces. We are very happy and thankful to have finally a space to welcome everybody – a space of encounter!
Eventually, there are still many thanks to express. Among others, thanks for the generous provision of the photo booth (http://www.photoautomat.de/), which led to loads of funny pictures. Also a big thanks to our photographer Iona Dutz for the capturing of amazing impressions this evening.
As well as our particular appreciation to the other partners and sponsors, who enabled the building and furnishing of our Kitchen Hub. And of course, thanks to all our guests and our community! We hope to welcome you to our next event.
